Liverpool Basketball Club

Local Development for National Success

At the start of the 2013/2014 season, the Club moved to the Archbishop Beck Tennis & Community Centre, where a new Coach and player recruitment sparked another revival of the Club’s fortunes. The Men’s team did not lose a game all season, winning Division 4 North and the Division 4 Play-Off Final to become Division 4 Champions and gain promotion to Division 3 for the 2014/2015 season.

Construction of the Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College was completed by the start of the 2014/2015 season and the College provided a new Home Court and training facilities, with a good wooden floor and spectator seating, allowing the Club to step-up Home game promotions.
The Club ran National League teams in U14 Boys, U18 Men,  Division 4 Men and Division 3 Men.

The U14 team finished 3rd in the North Conference and reached the U14 Championship Play-Offs, where they were beaten in the first round.
The Division 3 team won Division 3 North, only losing 2 games, and became Division 3 Champions when they defeated Solent Kestrels in the Division 3 Play-Off Final at the EIS in Sheffield. They were promoted to Division 2 for the 2015/2016 season.

For the 2015/2016 season the Club ran National League teams in U14 Boys, U16 Boys, North West Development League Men and NBL Division 2 Men, with Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College continuing as Home Court.
The Club also ran an U12 team in local tournaments.

The U14 team finished 2nd in the North West Conference, beat York Eagles in the 1st Round of the U14 Championship Play-Offs and were defeated by Worthing Thunder in the Play-Off Quarter Finals.

The NBL Division 2 team had a tough season, only winning 12 of their 22 League games and finished in 7th place, which set-up a Division 2 Play-Off Quarter Final away to Loughborough Student Riders, who had finished in 2nd place in the Division.
Liverpool defeated them by 7 points to earn a Home Play-Off Semi Final against London Greenhouse Pioneers, whom they defeated by 1 point in overtime.
The Play-Off Finals were held in the new Basketball Performance Centre, Belle Vue, Manchester.
Liverpool’s opponents were Solent Kestrels - who had won the 2nd Division.
Liverpool defeated them by 5 points in overtime and became 2015/2016 Division 2 Play-Off Champions.

In the 2016/2017 Season, the Club ran teams in the U14, U16 and U18 North West Regional Divisions of the National League as well as the Senior Mens team in NBL Division 2.

The senior U16 team and the U18 team won their respective NW Regional Divisions and both teams reached the 2nd Round of the Play-Offs, where they were defeated by Trafford Magic and Leicester Riders, respectively.

The NBL Division 2 team had to be rebuilt under a new Coach, because the previous Coach returned to his home country (Spain) and the majority of players either retired, moved out of Merseyside or moved on to other National League teams pre-season.

After a very tough season the team managed to retain their place in NBL Division 2, finishing 10th (out of 12) in the Division.

2017/2018 Season

The Club entered teams in the National League’s U14 & U16 NW Regional Divisions, the U18 Premier North Division and in NBL Division 2.

The U14 team had a successful season, finishing second in their Division. They didn’t qualify for the U14 Play-Offs because only a limited number of Divisional runners-up could qualify and Liverpool’s points For/Against ratio was lower than the team that qualified instead of them.

The U16’s and U18’s had satisfactory seasons, finishing 4th and 10th in their respective Divisions.

With returning and new players, the NBL Division 2 team had a much better season - which they finished-off with a run of 6 winning games to gain 3rd place in the Division and earn a Home game in the Play-Off Quarter Finals.

In the Play-Offs they beat Derbyshire Arrows convincingly in the Quarter Finals, but then lost away to Thames Valley Cavaliers in the Semi Finals.
